Promote In-Patient Safety Awareness between Staff and Inpatient in Regards of Incidence Misidentification at SMC - Dissertation Example Lack of managerial support, inability to develop a dynamic work environment, and failure to establish positive attitudes towards colleagues and the work itself were all found to lead to adverse outcomes in change implementation. Thus, improvement of managers’ performance along with the increase of staff members’ awareness and knowledge of wristband application practises and guidelines was emphasized in the project. Recommendations and implications for practise have been presented as well. Because the management was found out to be incapable of establishing a helpful environment for the members, it is important that training and support are provided for both the staff members as well as the management. In this manner, both parties can undertake the necessary transformations for improving a culture of safety through effective patient identification. The Life of Saddam Hussein Essay Saddam Hussein was born on April 28th 1937 in Al-Awja, a small Iraqi town. At a young age Hussain fled from his abusive father to live with his uncle who was a devoted Sunni Muslim. His uncle had Saddam attend a nationalist secondary school and after graduating Hussein studied law for three years but didnt earn a degree until he was older. At the age of 20 Hussein joined the Arab Ba’ath Socialist Party also known as ABSP. After receiving six months of jail time 5 years previous for political activities against the government he was again sentenced to jail for being part of ABSP. But while in jail Hussein was elected part of the ABSP’s Pan-Arab National Leadership. Saddam later would escape from jail and rise through the Ba’ath Party ranks. He earned a degree in law from Baghdad university which helped him become a powerful politician who was known for being â€Å"effective and progressive†. In 1972, he began developing a chemical weapons program and signed a treaty with the USSR for their friendship and cooperation. Throughout the 1970’s, Saddam Hussein led his nation through urbanization by providing electricity to rural Iraq and also developing national infrastructure. Hussein also helped his image grow when creating a state of the art public health system which was considered to be one of the best in the Middle East at the time. Hussein continued his accomplishments when being elected assistant secretary general of the National Pan- Arab Leadership. In the year 1979 Saddam earns three create accomplishments to his resume. First off, he was elected president of his homeland. Second, he was elected secretary general of the regional leadership of Ba’ath. Lastly, he was elected chairman of the Revolution Command Council. The 1970’s can be argued to be Saddams best decade before destroying his image throughout the world. After becoming president in 1979 Hussein started a war with neighboring Iran in 1980 after invading one of Iran’s oil provinces. It only took a year or two before Saddam used the chemical weapons produced from his chemical weapons program which began in 1972 to kill thousands of innocent people. Hussein showed his ruthless leadership when it came to those who were possible threats when Dr. Ibrahim (A man who was responsible for the death of a patient, and was later arrested) was found disassembled when delivered to his wife. Hussein once again displayed his cruelty when using his chemical weapons once again in 1988 in a Kurdish town killing 5,000 civilians. Soon after the war ended in a stalemate leaving both countries economies in ruins after borrowing tens of billions of dollars from other nations. In 1990, Saddam invaded the oil rich and prospering Kuwait so that Iraq could sell the oil to help pay back their debt. Hussein argued that Kuwait was â€Å"historically an integral part of Iraq. † After invading Kuwait Saddam merged the two countries on August 2nd. The invasion of Kuwait started a Gulf War which lasted only a year. In 2002 Saddam Hussein was elected president for the 5th straight time winning 99 percent of the vote in a noncompetitive poll. A year later Hussin denies inspectors to search for any nuclear weapons in his country. Ultimately Bush gave Saddam and ultimatum for him and his two sons Uday and Qusay to flee the country in 48 hours or the U. S. will use force. Saddam stood his ground and told the U. S. moved in with Operation Iraqi Freedom. Iraqs capital was soon taken over forcing the nations president to flee. Nine months later Saddam Hussein was captured by coalition forces and handed over to the Iraqi government. Hussein was first trialed in July of 2004 for the death of about 150 Shi’a. On October 19th trial began in Iraq, Hussein refused to show his face or reconize the authority of the court. A second trial opened up in 2006 after charges of genocide. On the 5th of November Saddam Hussein was convicted of the charges and is sentenced to death by hanging. Two others were also convicted and given the same punishment. Saddam Hussein was hung on December 30th 2006 at the age of 69. Saddam Hussein wasn’t always known for being a cruel and evil leader. During his 20’s and 30’s he helped his country prosper and urbanize. He donated money to farmers, brought electricity to most of Iraq, and many other notable contributions to his country and the Middle East. When Saddam Hussein became president that is when things started to go down hill for his reputation of being caring for his country. The beginning half of Saddam Hussein’s life can be inspirational, but the second half can be classified as evil and an example of what leaders can do when feared by most of the world.

The Lust For Power: How Politics and Personal Relations Become One   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The stories of the Bible reveal a pattern of â€Å"ups and downs† for the nation of Israel. A period of prosperity, faithfulness and fearing God would almost always be followed by a period of destitution, lawlessness and idolatry. This recurring cycle can be linked to political authority, and the level of separation of political authority from other influences. The successful struggle for liberation under the leadership of Moses and the glorious conquest of Canaan under Joshua instilled a fresh breeze of hope and a renewed faith in God in the nation of Israel. Guided by God, the nation of Israel met with unprecedented success as they journeyed to the promised land. During this time, political authority among the Israelites rested in the hands of patriarchs, or prominent members within the tribes. These men were righteous figures of authority, chosen by God, to lead His people and to teach His ways. The success that swept over the Israelites was short-lived, however, and for the next two hundred years the people of Israel struggled against neighboring tribes. The new generation of Israelites â€Å"knew neither the Lord nor what he did for Israel† (Judges 2:10). They began to â€Å"do evil in the eyes of the Lord† by worshipping other gods and engaging in various sexual activities. To save His people from their enemies and from their â€Å"evil ways,† God â€Å"raised up† judges to rescue them (Judges 2:16). These so-called judges had the political authority vested in them to lead the people of Israel and to save them from their sins. They mobilized the people of Israel against invasions of the tribes all around them. At this time, the nation of Israel was nothing more than a loose confederation of twelve tribes. Israel had no central authority, which meant no unity, no organization and no power. During the period of the judges, there was no need for a central government, because the people of Israel were able to defend their tribal territories effectively against adjoining peoples. Whenever there was a threat from a neighboring tribe, God sent a judge to lead the Israelites against their enemies. As this era came to an end, however, the Israelites were faced with a much larger problem - the Philistines' military threat. As the Israelites were elimina... ... fighting for it. The judges were sent to lead the Israelites in times of need and emergency. Their leadership was only ephemeral, and thus not one of them were able to gain an exorbitant amount of political power. When the period of the monarchy was firmly in place, however, there was a system of succession of power. Even before the king muttered his last words, there were peopleeagerly waiting in line to take his place. And if that wasn't enough, people were plotting against the king in hopes of succeeding the throne, even his own sons. This feature of the period of the monarchy allowed for the mixing and intertwining of politics and personal relations. The use of women as symbols of power and dominance became abundant as kings challenged the prospective successors, and as prospective successors challenged the kings. Events took place that can be compared to episodes of TV soap operas or Melrose Place. Politics and personal relations became interrelated, and above all else, the underlying reason was power. As people began to lust for power, for wealth, and for recognition, the association of the two became imminent, and the separation of the two became impossible.

The Mystic World through Poe’s

The existence of literature is to express humanity and human emotions in or through words. People can feel true and actual human nature through literature. Give a better opening statement about the wonders of literature†¦ Furthermore, people can touch the mystic (not appropriate term) world that is beyond their imaginations by reading literary works. The Tell- Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe is a good example for people to look deeply into humanity (why is it a good example?). The short story was first published in James Russell Lowell’s The Pioneer in January, 1843, and it appeared again in The Broadway Journal on August 26, 1845. The story describes the emotions and thoughts of a mad man who killed the old man with the â€Å"evil eye†. The story is plain and simple, yet it is able to arouse and pique the reader’s interest because of the use of symbols and excellent prose.   By reading the story, we could see the dark side of humanity, and how it forms in the human mind The setting of the story covers a period of eight days. The most important action occurs each night around midnight. The location is in the old man’s house and the narrator is the caretaker. The whole story happened and revolved around the old man’s house.   The time frame and the location that Poe established for the story were simple, which further enhanced the shocking images of the characters and its mystery The characters of the story were the nameless and sexless narrator, the old man, and the police. The narrator is nameless and sexless because Poe used â€Å"I† and â€Å"me† to refer to the character. â€Å"Most readers assumed that the narrator is a male because of a male author using a first person point of view.† (give the article title or author and year format, not the URL Available: http:// www.poedecoder.com/essays/ttheart/#characters). However, I think the narrator is a male, because he is strong enough to kill the old man and also because he was able to live with an old man and be his caretaker in the19th century (substantiate more). Poe writes the story in the first person point of view and makes it easy for readers to understand every aspect of the narrator’s mind. Our imaginations are dragged through the narrator’s eyes and we hold our breath as we continue to read the   exciting plot of the murder. It seems that we are just right in the scene watching the narrator killing the old man! Symbols can be found in the story (what other symbols?). The major symbol is the heartbeat. The narrator believes that the sound of the heartbeat is from the old man’s heart, but it is actually from his own heart. The narrator’s fear of being caught by the police and his guilt of killing the old man make him hear the sound of the heartbeat steadily. The old man’s â€Å"eye of a vulture†- â€Å"a pale-blue eye† is the symbol of evil and represents the narrator’s fears. Every time the narrator gazed at the â€Å"evil eye†, his blood ran cold. I think it’s because that the eye reveals the narrator’s evil, dark, and ugly side of his mind so that he wants to kill the old man to get rid of the eye forever (sentence is running in circles). In this way, he can get rid of the fact that he is truly mad and his mind is ugly and evil (how?). The theme of The Tell- Tale Heart is that human nature is a delicate balance of light and dark or good and evil. Most people can keep their balance at most times (give more examples or situations). However, the balance of human nature can be destroyed and the dark side can be aroused by some indefinite (not appropriate term) reasons. Different people view things differently. The reasons that destroy the balance of people’s minds may be different (redundant) In The Tell- Tale Heart, the narrator’s evilness was awakened by the old man’s â€Å"vulture eye†- which really just revealed his own evil. The Tell- Tale Heart is one of my favorite short stories. I read the story for the first time during my first year in the university. When I finished the story, I was really touched and shocked by it. I love the story for its fine descriptions of human nature, the suspicious plot of a murder, and the mystic atmosphere of the story. Every time I read the story, I   imagine myself to be right there in the scene and   to be aware of the strange atmosphere of the story so I can observe a different side of humanity. I can be in another world for a while to experience fear and guilt.   Without a doubt , Poe really is a master at making people experience and explore man’s complexities and emotions. By his stories, one can know more about humanity and the evil that exists in human nature. Literature reveals real humanity and true lives of people. By reading these masterpieces, I understand more about people and experience different sides of the human minds, such as good and evil, or beauty and ugliness. After all, these different and opposite things do exist side by side in our real world and we all have to learn to realize and take them normally and correctly so that we can view our lives in the right and perspective point of view to fulfill our life (I can’t seem to understand what you mean in this paragraph). For a film-maker, viewer’s perspective is all-important. Towards this end, he uses movements, contrasts, visual patterns, narrative emphasis etc. Mis En Scene refers to arrangement of all the visual elements of a theatrical production, within the fixed area allotted-the stage. It has 4 formal elements: 1. The physical setting and decor, 2. The staging of the action, 3. The manner in which these elements are framed. 4. The manner in which they are photographed Making movies a co-operative effort they represent the triumph not of a single department, but the blending of all. Setting: The story is set in the shark-infested waters of corporate mergers. The physical merger (romance) is the foundation of the story and increases the ‘share value’ of this movie. For Tess it is the far cry from the Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan. She was too brilliant for the low position that she occupied. Her ideas catch the imagination of her boss so much that she is willing to steal it as her own. She does it in a clandestine operation. The opening credits show the camera pans over the skyscrapers of New York City. The rousing tune about the â€Å"new Jerusalem† plays. For the modern materialistic generation like Tess, New York is the holy place. It aspires to reach the secret ambitions and achieve something substantial. But advancement is not all that easy and simple. Many are compelled to perform tasks and pursue careers, where there is no scope of advancement. But ‘fortune favors the brave,’ they say. Tess realizes that she needs to change and her talents will definitely help her at the appropriate stage. Her boss goes on medical leave, and she acts boss, goes beyond the instructions given to her. But her craze for success is so much; she is up to doing anything, including going to bed with her business associate. One of the crucial and interesting scenes in the film, as Tess’s boss forces Trainer to make a critical choice. Katherine recoups her original health, returns, comes to know about the business-adventures of Tess, she has no hesitation to send her to her place on the corporate food chain. The film has 7 important filming locations, viz. World Trade Center, Manhattan, New York City and New York etc. The story is creative and witty. Mike Nichols’ direction is laudable and in the highest form. The fine supporting cast also features Cusack and the always dependable Phillip Bosco. Carly Simon’s wonderful song won an Oscar. The soundtrack, featuring Carly Simon and the St. Thomas boys’ choir, is sublime. When ‘Let the River Run’ hits as the camera pulls away from Melanie within her new office in the World Trade Center you can only realize that how beautiful is life! Sit through and enjoy the magnificent helicopter shot of the New York Skyline and Staten Island Ferry during the opening credits, with Carly Simon’s award-winning theme playing on the soundtrack. You will feel elated and the first impact will be the everlasting impact. It is an unforgettable experience for the lifetime. 2. Lighting The use of mis-en-scene is most objectively utilized in the scenery, costumes and especially the lighting. The narrative compiles a majority of dark scenes with a careful use of low-key illumination and many shadows. These low-light settings make the viewer to express feelings toward the characters and their actions. The close-up camera shots of the character’s faces reveal the emotions they wish to portray whether they are talking or making a statement through silence. The lights whether focused upon a single performer or spread to include the entire scene, have been consistently good. The dancing scene has been done to perfection. Tess dances with happiness and uneasiness, and the light effect makes the audience concentrate its attention on this particular pair, and catch their expression beautifully right through the scene in the bedroom. The results of the light from source to object have been perfectly executed. There is no offensive and unreal glare. The loveliest light, the modern artist will say, and say truly, is reflected light. 3. Costumes and Make-up. Tess is a sex-pot with a night school MBA. From her baby hair, the transformation to new serious hair make-up, (to imitate her boss on sick-leave) and her access to Katherine’s wardrobe is an interesting part of the movie. She poses as a broker in her Donna Karan suits. Later it is fascinating to watch her rapid transformation to swirling ball gowns and dancing feet, which ultimately lead her to the bed. Tess McGill (Melanie Griffith) is one among the masses in Manhattan. She is yet to adopt the Manhattan style of life, happy with her huge blonde hair, an old wardrobe and for easy walking, she sports tennis shoes. This was not expected of the working girl of the 1980s. Her outfit blocks her progress. Her male colleagues make fun of her career ambitions. She has the intelligence of the genius, but success eludes her for sometime, but not for all time. When ultimately she becomes the ‘boss,’ her dress sense goes metamorphic change. Then modernization achieved as for her dress and hair is excellent. The stuffed rabbit that Tess sets on her desk when she arrives at her new job shows her child-like innocence. It was made by teddy bear artist Gae Sharp. It was purchased at the Mables in New York. Director Mike Nichols later visited the store and ordered five more rabbits to give to important cast members. Something about the Best Supporting Actress Cusack! She excels in more than one scene. Her reaction to the expensive dress from the wardrobe of the boss, as she tells Tess, with the line: â€Å"5000 dolluhs It’s not even leather,† the last word emphatically pronounced â€Å"LEH-thuh† as if the price tag on the dress were a working-class faux pas. In that scene, Griffith as Tess nearly faints. 4. Staging or actor’s movement and gestures. The gestures of the boss speaking out her mind very tactfully and yet you need not be a psychologist to understand what actually transpires within the secret chambers of her brain. Her seriousness is deceptive. There is a discerning mind at work, and the way it has been captured calls for admiration. Katharine Parker, a breezy, insensitive sexist who by now knows that her secretary is brilliant, pretends to help her. â€Å"I’d love to help you, but you can’t busy the quarterback with passing out the Gatorade,† Katharine says. â€Å"Tess, you know you don’t get anywhere in this world by waiting for what you want to come to you. You make it happen. â€Å"Katharine further asserts. And there’s more treachery, which can be called as the white-collar crime. â€Å"Bring me your ideas and we’ll see what we can make happen. † Some side-kicks make the movie hilarious and griping. No doubt, Tess is making the best of the destiny-sent opportunity to her, whereas her boss is waiting for the broken bones to come to terms. But the fear element is always there—what if she is exposed at the most unsuspected moment! In one touching scene, she gets up to fetch the coffee when she has in fact been offered some. Tess’ gum-popping sister (jazzy Joan Cusak) is alarmed over her pretend success: â€Å"Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. That doesn’t make me Madonna,† she warns. Tess has her own problems relating to her ‘past-life. ’ She has a boy-friend (Alec Baaldwin), not very polished, by any standards. Just care-free! The movie is photographed by Michael Ballhaus. Structurally, the film has some parallels with â€Å"The Graduate,† Nichols’ 1967 classic – including a climactic scene where an important ceremony is interrupted by the wrong person bursting in through the door. The photography is luscious. The Statue of Liberty is often shown; it is the symbol of opportunity, which a girl like Tess is able to grasp. She has proved how sex and money go hand in hand. A girl’s best friend is Capitalism. The important aspect of the movie is the transformation of the mindset of Tess, and her realization that she is capable of achieving more with her life. She is seized of the issue that there are astounding opportunities in New York. The initial frustration and the eventual confidence have been ably handled by Melanie Griffith. She still maintains her fragile inner nature. But now she is the tough business executive. Somewhere in the corner of her mind, she visualizes the collapse of the whole edifice. In the meantime, her ex-boy friend is making desperate efforts to win her back, and earnestly looks forward to her failure. Tess is shown to be quite uncertain about the future eclipse of her career and what telling effect it will have on her life. All these uncertain situations and movement and gestures of the concerned actors around Tess, have been ably shown and acted. The main characters of the movie are not strong, the plot as such is pedestrian, and yet the movie provides one with the worthwhile experience, because it relates to the trials and tribulations of the working women. What makes the movie click is the element of humor and the romanticism. But this is not a serious classic plot. The great performances (Oscar award winning) and real-life dialogues, make viewing an interesting experience. The professional struggles of Tess mixed with romance, keep the story going. Element of suspense is interwoven throughout the story in one form or the other. The level of imagination in acting by the minor characters like the duplicitous boyfriend is memorable. (Portrayed with an adequate balance of arrogance and warmth, by Alec Baldwin). Conclusion: There are sterling individual performances, but what matters is the collective effort. The small and the big characters have rendered faultless justice to their respective roles and responsibilities, by taking charge of the small and big issues nicely. As for Tess, it is the same old story. ‘God sees the Truth, but how long is the man (woman) to wait! ’ Tess is no more willing to wait to enter the portals of success. They say; having gone for a sea-bath, don’t be afraid of the oncoming waves. If the waves are powerful, duck them; if the waves are friendly, dance with them; when the waves are normal swim further, deep into the sea. .. The opening song of the movie seems to set the goal in the forthcoming life of Tess. Tess takes off her sneakers and puts on her high-heeled shoes. She is up to begin a new life, the life of the working girl, to which sun-rise and sun-set will have special meanings. She will learn to budget her time and regulate her life. She will transform herself from an ordinary ‘yes Sir’, ‘yes Madam,’ secretary to a noticeable executive with powers. Her high pitched ambitions that were dreams now take concrete shape. Gone are the days, when she consoled her conscience that it is better to deserve without receiving, than to receive without deserving. Now the watchword of her life is –success at all times, and success at all costs! Women have more than one enemy. Women executives and the male colleagues, each one up to their special interests! In case of Tess, her boss would not tolerate or accept her brilliance. Her theory is– the boss is always right! Working Girl 1988 is a cheap romantic comedy, and yet it is not! The inner core of every individual desires and loves perfection, wishes to reach the portals of spirituality by transcending the mind barriers, live for the ideals which one cherishes, but Satan is up to his ways to perturb the one treading the right path. He doesn’t like the honest brilliance of Tess. He makes her compromise with her character.

It also discusses factors such as customs of the population, market segmentation and social political system of the country. International markets are vital for many companies. A large number of corporations in the world earn more than half of the profits from the tax profits of marketing and production abroad. A company moves from domestic to the international market for several reasons. The first is simply the existence of international markets. There is great demand for many consumer products in developing nations. Second, as domestic marketing saturates, manufacturers seek for international markets. Third, some overseas countries have very natural and human resources that give them a unique advantage when it comes to producing certain goods. Its a rule that many writers feel bound to follow when they dont need to. According to this so-called rule, a writer should never use the same word twice in a paragraph. Newscasters follow elegant variation when they say, The Dow-Jones Industrial Average rose more than 300 points yesterday. It was the blue-chip indicators fourth straight gain. Or Chinas Sichuan province experienced another earthquake yesterday afternoon, the second in three months. The temblor measured 6.1 on the Richter scale. Admittedly, a news story might sound a bit childish if it said, The Dow-Jones gained 300 points yesterday. It was the fourth straight gain for the Dow-Jones. Too much repetition reads like a toddlers picture book. But more important than not repeating a word is not using the wrong word. I experienced several earthquakes when I lived in California, and not once did I hear anybody say, Did you feel that temblor last night? I remember one local radio newscaster who spent about twenty minutes saying basically, We had a big earthquake this morning, and we dont know anything else about it, but I have to keep talking about it because this is an all-news station and its our top story. But I dont think he ever used the word temblor. In fact, Ive never heard that word at all, except from radio announcers trying to avoid saying earthquake. Instead of asking What other word can I use the next time?, we should be asking, What better word can I add the next time?. In my first example, using the term blue-chip indicator in parallel to Dow-Jones Industrial Average defines the Dow-Jones Industrial Average as a performance indicator for blue-chip stocks. It adds to the meaning of the sentence, instead of simply providing variation. Another problem with elegant variation is that it can push your writing out of the readability zone. If youre trying to be elegant, youre probably trying to be formal. If youre trying to be formal, youre probably going to use big words that fewer readers understand (porcine instead of piggish). If youre straining to find a synonym for the right word, you may end up doing worse than finding the wrong word. You may end up with finding a word that even you dont understand. Repetition is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes once you find a good thing, the best course is to stick with it. My previous paragraph was stronger because of its repetition. Repetition emphasizes parallelism, which makes sentences and paragraphs more understandable. Elegance is not necessarily a good thing. When the term elegant variation was coined by Henry Watson Fowler in the 1920s, it implied precious writing overly dainty and falsely sophisticated. Media Connections to Appearance vs. Reality Essay Themes are the framework of works of art. Just like a backbone in humans is needed to provide support and aid movement, a theme is used to send a message across to the audience and provide the means used to send it. Appearance vs. reality is a theme most commonly used in writing. It requires the audience to think about the fact that the piece of art they have just read or seen has more to it. This theme is used in Nadine Gordimer’s â€Å"Once Upon a Time†, Julio Polanco’s â€Å"Identity† and American rock band Evanescence’s song, â€Å"Everybody’s fool†. It is used in the plot of each work to give three major underlying messages. The first is that appearance exists to hide the truth, the second is that reality is often a harsher world and the lastly, they use it as an umbrella to express their feelings and thoughts. Reality is the state of things as they actually exist. Appearance on the other hand, was made to cover up reality. There only reason as to why the original, fixed state of things has to be altered is to hide the truth. For instance, the main characters of Gordimer’s story are a family living in a suburb that are racist but try not to make it seem so. They put up a silhouette of an intruder as a warning to future burglars. The silhouette is neither black nor white proving that the family is not racist (Godimer). The possible burglars the family was expecting were the coloured people from the other side of town. This is racist because they see them as harmful because of their colour. Likewise, Julio Polanco’s poem also shows that there is something hidden under all the glamour and falsity that is appearance. It is about pretty flowers that are â€Å"always watered, fed but harnessed to a pot of dirt† (Polanco). The flowers appear better off because they are being taken care of but in reality, they are not truly happy because they are not free. Lastly, Evanescence again reinforces this idea through the behaviour discussed in their song. They describe how one alters their behaviour when around others. The person has â€Å"no flaws when they are pretending† (Lee). This is because they use their changed behaviour to cover up their true imperfect selves. Appearances are often made because it is an easier alternative to the real thing. Life is full of hardships, struggle and anxiety which one must face almost daily. This becomes too difficult for people and they create an idealistic way of life which appears easier and better. For example, in Gordimer’s story, the family does not want to face violence from the coloured people. â€Å"There were riots, but these were outside the city, where people of another color were quartered† (Godimer). Due to this, the family creates a safe home with lots of security reinforcements and this keeps the danger out so they do not have to face it. Similarly, Evanescence’s song tells readers about a character who covers up their true personality. They sing â€Å"without the mask where will you hide? Can’t find yourself lost in your lie† (Lee). The person creates a new self- image because they probably did not like who they used to be. In like manner, Julio Polanco makes an even stronger point of the harshness of reality with descriptive words in his poem. The flowers are well kept and cared for unlike the weed that is â€Å"exposed to the madness of the vast, eternal sky† (Polanco). The condition the weed grows in is harsh so even though the flower is not free, it lives in a safer environment. Appearance is also used broadly by the writers as a metaphor to express their opinions on political or social issues. Gordimer’s story expresses her opinion on a political issue while the topic of both Polanco and Evanescence’s work is based on social issues. On one hand, â€Å"Once Upon a Time† may feel like a children’s tale but it is really showing how she feels like a children’s tale but it is really showing how she feels about apartheid in South Africa (CITE). The story is written in simple language but it has a serious undertone as to the consequences of racial segregation. The colours people are not the only ones affected by racism. Racism has an effect on everyone involved. In her story, Gordimer expressed this using the death of the son (Godimer). Her opinion is that apartheid benefits no one. On the other hand, Julio Polanco writes about a social issue. In his poem he says, â€Å"I’d rather be a tall ugly weed† (Polanco). This is an extended metaphor used to show how the narrator prefers being strong and free while suffering hardship as opposed to being under the rule of another. Julio Polanco shows that he believes in the right of freedom. By the same token, Evanescence’s style in their lyrics voices their opinion on hypocrites. They think these kinds of people go from fooling everyone to becoming â€Å"everyone’s fool† (Lee). In conclusion, these artists use the theme to express themselves. Deeper thoughts are stimulated in the audience when the theme of appearance vs. reality is used. It is a message within a message. Nadine Gordimer, Julio Polanco and Evanescence are only a few of the artists who use this theme. In their works, they show that appearance is only serves as a blindfold to the truth; appearance exists because reality can become too hard to face and lastly, use it as a means of expression. The kinetochore fibers of spindle are attached to kinetochore region of chromosomes and align them at the equator of the spindle forming equatorial plate or metaphase plate. Each kinetochore gets two fibers each from opposite poles. 4.1.1.3. Anaphase: It is very important phase of mitosis. The kinetochore fibers of spindle contract toward their respective poles exert force which separates the two chromatids from centromere. In this way two sister chromatids are formed. Half of them move to one pole and other half towards other pole. 4.1.1.4. Telophase: As the chromosomes reach to their respective pole telophase starts. The chromosome starts unfolding and become chromatin material. Mitotic apparatus starts disappearing while nucleus and nuceolic appears and thus two nucleoli are formed at each pole of the cell. 4.2. Cytokinesis: Cytokinesis is a phase of the mitosis in which whole of the cell divides. At this phase the astral microtubules send signals to equatorial region of cell which activate action and myosin to form contractile ring. This contractile rings form cleavage furrow in the center of cells which get deepens gradually and ultimately divide the parent cell into two daughter cells. 5. MEIOSIS: Meiosis is a special type of cell division in which the numbers of chromosomes in daughter cells are reduced to half as compare to parent cell. In animals it occurs in diploid cells at gamete formation while in plants it takes place at spore formation at gamete formation. Meiosis can take place in two divisions Meiosis I Meiosis II The first meiotic division is reduction division and second meiotic division is like that of mitosis. During the stage of prophase due to chromosome contraction they are very distinct as visible bivalent structure. 5.1.1.5. Diakinesis: Next phase is diakinesis where the chiasmata are fully terminalized and the two chromosomes remain together though fully terminalized. 5.1.2. Metaphase I: Nuclear membrane disorganize at the beginning of this phase. Spindle fibres originate and the kinetochore fibres attach to the kinetochore of the homologous chromosomes from each pole and arrange bivalent at the equator. Management Style for Assisted Living and Nursing Home Facilities Human Resource Management in Healthcare Organizations The type of organization I chose to discuss is an independent the assisted living facility and nursing home. They both provide some of the same functions, although the name of the facility may be slightly different. While these are separate types of organizations now, in the future, they will blend due to the fact that the longer the clientele is a â€Å"resident† of the Assisted Living Facility (ALF), the more likely they will be in need of full-time nursing care. (NursingCenter). I chose this particular type of organization because it is one that I am interested in due to the fact that such a large portion of our population will be served by these organizations in the near future and for some time to come based on our aging population statistics. Forty-two percent of the population that lives until the age of seventy will spend time in a nursing home before they die. (Knickman). Residents, or patients, in those facilities will receive services from a variety of providers like physical and occupational therapists, medication management for mental and physical ailments and perhaps social service support services as they move toward the nursing home in lieu of assistance from family members when they have none to call for assistance. Because the environment is clinical and service oriented over longer periods of time, it is important to examine what kind(s) of management style is successful in order to manage the intensive daily clinical needs and the ongoing relationships that develop among the staff and residents. One report on the study of leadership styles suited for nursing homes and assisted living facilities reported that a consensus leadership style had a strong association with quality of care. (Castle). Models indicate that consensus leadership style is also the best approach in limiting staff turnover, which is essential in how the residents rate their satisfaction of service. (Donoghue). Consensus management style is not a majority vote. After management has  reached a decision, consensus approach seeks to determine if all the team members find it acceptable and if they are in support of the decision. In this management style we would ask what could be changed in order to obtain staff support. All members of the group should feel that their ideas and views were heard and that they heard the others in the group as well. The idea is that the team will support the management because decisions were arrived at fairly. (Mayoclinic). To meet all the demands of infection control, government regulations, service to the residents, clinicians, families and inherent risks associated with the geriatric population, management must not only be task oriented, but people-centered. Management must develop clear and effective strategic plans, but with a humanistic approach of consensus so that all the team members that serve the clientele are happy and effective. It is truly an environment where management must foster employee relations which will decrease risk, and improve patient satisfaction which should in turn also reduce marketing needs as each point of contact that the staff has with a family member is also an ambient sales opportunity. In order to meet the patient needs in such a high demand environment where a majority of the time the patient/customer is in contact with a lower educated, less clinical staff such as a certified nurse assistant making a low wage, that staff must have a voice to understand that they make a huge impact on the organization. When they feel valuable, the organization will run much more smoothly. My first job and customer training out of high school was working the front desk of a four star hotel. We were the lowest paid on the totem pole, but management and human resources through incentive programs and awards recognized our achievements and solicited our input of ideas at all times. However, with only minor modification Coppola powerfully represents Charlie Marlow’s first contact with Kurtz’ camp. Although Coppola has changed the Russian adventurer into an American photojournalist he has kept the characterizations and dialogue very close to Conrad’s original. In doing so, the impact, theme and message of the cinematic and textual versions of the same scene are virtually parallel. Nonetheless several elements missing from the screen version causes it to be less than helpful in understanding the text version.The young Russian was Charlie Marlow’s first sight when he reached Kurtz’ camp and he looked at hi m â€Å"in astonishment. There he was before me, in motley, as though he had absconded from a troupe of mimes, enthusiastic, fabulous. His very existence was improbable, inexplicable, and altogether bewildering† (p. 119). Although not English like Marlow, he made immediate note of his commonality as a â€Å"brother sailor† (p. 116). Rather impetuously he requests some of Marlow’s â€Å"excellent English tobacco† while pointing out â€Å"your pilot-house wants a clean up!† (p. 115). Aware of Marlow’s potential peril at the hands of the natives, he advises him to keep the boat’s whistle ready; â€Å"one good screech will do more for you than all your rifles† (p. 115).The Russian took it upon himself, and appeared literally compelled to tell Marlow as much as possible of Kurtz and his relationship with him. He was clearly in awe of Kurtz and yet casually mentioned Kurtz had threatened to kill him. He described the great intellectu al and emotional conversations they shared. He made no apologies for the obvious atrocities carried out under Kurtz’ command—human heads mounted on stakes. As an explanation he pleaded to Marlow â€Å"you don’t know how such a life tries a man like Kurtz† (p. 124).He denied Kurtz was mad; he protested â€Å"you can’t judge Mr. Kurtz as you would an ordinary man† (p. 121). In spite of it all—or perhaps because of it all—the Russian had nursed Kurtz through illnesses and tried to convince Kurtz to leave the jungle. But Kurtz remained: according to the Russian â€Å"this man suffered too much. He hated all this, and somehow he couldn’t get away† (p. 121). The Russian knew it was time to leave and perhaps time for Kurtz to leave as well, and Marlow gave him cartridges, tobacco and even shoes as he was leaving the camp. Upon leaving he exclaimed â€Å"you ought to have heard him recite poetry—his own, too†¦oh, he enlarged my mind!† (131).Coppola is very faithful to the original in his characterization of the American photojournalist who greets Willard on his arrival. The American, nameless as Conrad’s Russian, quickly establishes his commonality with Willard and the crew, crying out â€Å"American! I’m an American civilian!† Similarly he quickly boards the boat, stating happily â€Å"you got the cigarettes!† and exclaiming â€Å"This boat is a mess, man!† Willard is flabbergasted at his appearance, but just as grateful as Marlow when the American advises â€Å"just zap ‘em with your siren!† in reference to the hostile natives surrounding the boat.The American, like the Russian, is a â€Å"disciple† of Kurtz and takes it upon himself to tell Willard all he can about Kurtz and his relationship with him. He’s concerned Willard has â€Å"come to take him away† this â€Å"great man† who is â€Å"a poet warr ior in the classic sense.† Like the Russian, the American has also been threatened with death by Kurtz but is loyal nonetheless. Willard, like Marlow, sees the grotesque heads on pikes and the American responds â€Å"you’re looking at the heads—sometimes he goes too far† and fears â€Å"you’re gonna call him crazy.†The two scenes are virtually parallel in theme and message. The appearance of both characters is completely unexpected and adds the suspense of â€Å"what else can be expected in this other-worldly place?† The unexpectedness is combined with the theme of being caught off-guard by the appearance of someone â€Å"familiar† in an unfamiliar environment. Is it safe or dangerous to trust this person?Additionally the characters provide Marlow/Willard with â€Å"interpretations† and defense of Kurtz, which is equally frightening when the profound effect of Kurtz upon the characters is revealed. It is a very effective way of giving substance to a man who has yet to be seen. The characters are very appropriate gatekeepers to the â€Å"Heart of Darkness† Marlow/Willard are about to enter. The message is the power Kurtz can exert on a fellow European/American and both reader and viewer are left to wonder what effect Kurtz will have on Marlow/Willard.Unfortunately Coppola’s scene does little to assist in understanding the scene as written by Conrad for a very simple reason: despite the dramatic jolt the American gives, he is an â€Å"incomplete† if not â€Å"throwaway† character. Conrad’s Russian is a man of his own adventure who had nursed Kurtz and urged him to leave; he clearly recognizes the time to move on, which helps put Kurtz and his influence on the Russian in perspective.Coppola’s American, by contrast, has not been of any assistance to Kurtz nor urged him to leave, and is not heard from after bringing Willard into the camp. The Russian has survived and thrown off the influence of Kurtz; whether the American survives is left to the imagination.
